The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has
vowed to confiscate vehicles that have no speed
limit starting from next year to avoid road
crashes on the highway.
Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi, the Corps Marshal of the
Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) made the
promise at this year’s nationwide event to
commemorate the Africa Safety Day held in
Akure, the Ondo state capital.
Mr. Oyeyemi said the absence of the speed
limit device in many vehicles have contributed
to lose of many souls on major roads of the
country due to the carefree attitude of
motorists.
The Corps Marshal who was represented by the
Sector Commander of the Corps, Mrs. Aderonke
Daniel, noted that the consistent using of the
device in vehicles would possibly avoid drivers
to move beyond the regulated speed to avoid
accident and called for more stringent law
enforcement to their curtails activities.
Earlier, the Head of Operations of the Corps,
Mr. Adewunmi Malomo cautioned the motorists
to avoid overloading stressing that passengers
should be carried with limitation as they have
specification on the road worthiness.
At the event, the Commissioner for transport,
Mr. Nicholas Tofowomo who was represented
by his permanent secretary, Mr. Dare Aragbaya
also called for synergy between government
and stakeholders in the transport system of the
state to prevent incessant crashes.
